The history of soccer in the United States has numerous different roots. The modern-day game is often considered to have been brought to the United States through Ellis Island during the 1870s. However, recent research has shown that the modern game entered America in the 1850s through New Orleans when Scottish, Irish, and German immigrants brought the game with them. It was in New Orleans that some of the first organized games that used modern English rules were held. In the 21st century we have the Diaspora World Cup in the Orlando – Sanford area.




Many members of the world diaspora living in Orlando - Sanford area are taking advantage of being part of a Diaspora Nation. Diaspora networks are increasingly powerful social and economic forces with cultural knowledge and substantial connections to economies and communities beyond the Orlando borders. Over the years people of the Diaspora and immigrants have settle in the Orlando area and most are involved in soccer at the Diaspora World Cup. It now brings together the world diaspora of over 200 countries to build of coalition to committed soccer players and colleges and universities students to solve the world most pressing challenge: Illiteracy. We focus on making The Diaspora World Cup an enjoyable experience during our regular season from spring to summer each year.
