Guinea Takes a 2–0 Victory Over Ethiopia
Guinea Head Coach Kissima will be delighted with what he saw on Saturday. The Diaspora team of Guinea was far and away the superior side against Ethiopia at the Heurich stadium and cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win. Conversely, Kissima's Ethiopian counterpart, Teddy, will no doubt be looking for a considerably more competitive display against Brazil on June 7. Following are three things we learned from the match.
1. Ethiopia’s defense is a Major Weak Spot: The team was abysmal in defense this past Saturday, and their shortcomings were only made clearer when Guinea scored its first goal. The only bright spot for Teddy, as far as his defense is concerned, will have been the play of right-back Danny.
2. Ethiopia is now an outsider in Group A: Ethiopia will continue their diaspora World Cup campaign against a very stingy Brazilian side, with both Nigeria and Swaziland waiting. If Saturday’s game was any indication, DC Ethiostars's schedule will reach its conclusion at that point. Given how much they concede possession—never mind their mistakes in defense—it’s almost unfathomable that they could somehow get out of the group and be qualify for the knockout stage.
3. Guinea have now giving themselves something to build on Thanks to Head Coach Kissima and General Manager Tamsir Camara: Guinea will contest a pair of group games the following next four weeks, against Botswana, Swaziland, Nigeria and Cameroon. It may even be one group game too many. Kissima will have been delighted with his side’s display against Ethiopia this past weekend and likely needs just one more match to settle on his starting XI for the knockout stage game starting July 19th. After a tempestuous and difficult three years season, they have finally found some momentum. If they can successfully build off their 2-0 win and overcome some players' injury, look out.
Ethiopia's Defensive Problems
Ethiopia's defensive performance was one of the major talking points from the match. Guinea was able to take advantage of spaces and mistakes, eventually establishing a two-goal advantage over the Ethiopian side.
The performance underlined the need for Ethiopia to improve its defensive structure in the matches ahead. The team still had important group fixtures remaining and would need to respond to the defeat with a stronger performance.
Guinea Builds Momentum
For Guinea, the 2–0 victory provided an important foundation for the rest of its tournament campaign. The result gave the team confidence and demonstrated that it could compete effectively against Ethiopia.
The Guinea side was guided by Head Coach Kissima, with Tamsir Camara serving as General Manager. The result gave the team an opportunity to build momentum as it prepared for further competition.
Guinea Takes a 2–0 Victory Over Ethiopia
The match left both teams with different challenges. Ethiopia needed to recover from the defeat and improve its defensive and possession play, while Guinea could use the victory as a platform for its upcoming matches.
With the tournament continuing, the result was only one part of the wider competition. Guinea had further opponents ahead, while Ethiopia faced the challenge of responding to the loss and improving its performances in the group stage.
